On the edge of Hastings Pier - a stone’s throw from the beach - you’ll find the Sound Sauna; a tranquil listening space where we turn the heat up to eleven. Here we invite you can take a breath, and engage in deep listening in community, before heading for a cold plunge. Sauna Hats optional, swimwear essential. Bring a towel (or two!) BOOKING REQUIRED

AUDIO MAKING
Record 30-60 second micro-documentaries to capture small moments of everyday life: a conversation overheard at a bus stop, a classified ad, a local character, a family ritual, a fragment of history, a joke, a memory, a sound that reveals something about St Leonards-on-Sea. Prizes for great work!

Drop into A Library Out of Air to pick up a free zine and help create a collective, archive out of the ether.

EXHIBITION
Sound artist and radio maker DinahBird is collecting the silent stories of women working in all aspects of the recording industry, including fabrication, assembly & quality-control.

She will be exhibiting images from a glass plate archive at the pathé record pressing plant in Chatou.

EXHIBITION
This exhibition showcases Felix’s KNITSONIK era; her creative process from then; and her knack for drawing knitting palettes and patterns from the richly-textured world. 

WORKSHOP
This workshop for audio makers will encourage an awareness of the potential for spatiality in audio work.

Stand at the shoreline and listen' is a soundwalk inviting you to do just that: to look at the sea and explore its myriad meanings. This meditative trio for listener, headphones and St Leonards-on-Sea is inspired by Virgina Woolf’s 'The Waves'.

EXHIBITION / SOUND INSTALLATION
A major new exhibition by Czech artist Miroslava Večeřová, combining sculpture, drawing and an immersive sound installation created in collaboration with sound artist Isobel Anderson

SOUND INSTALLATION
Enter a mouth of sound, and listen to a tribute to Gyorgi’s Ligeti’s “Poem Symphonique for 100 metronomes” created using mouth sounds taken from your favourite manosphere podcasts.

FAMILY WORKSHOP
An improvised, immersive and interactive micro art space that will take over the back room at Tough Love record shop. Cath Roberts and Tullis Rennie will construct the habitat alongside festival visitors, using sound, colour, cardboard and strings in a two-day cross-artform improvisation.

Composite Mashworks presents Temporary Art Habitat, an improvised, immersive and interactive micro art space that will take over the back room at Tough Love record shop.

INSTALLATION
Under the Hood - Clingradio turns salon hairdryers into listening devices, with a built-in sound system and repurposed timer dial as the volume control. They each play different 18-hour compilations of the 6-hour live weekly radio show Clingradio, produced by Sarah Washington for the first year of Resonance FM, from 2002-3.

Washed ashore after an unearthly storm, you awaken on the beach with no memory of how you arrived there!? Step into a parallel town where ley lines, dark magic and strange seaside folklore await. You’ll be moving through an uncanny version of St Leonards where familiar streets become portals into the surreal. Guided by Sirens, broadcasts, music, and mysterious sonic signals, you’ll be led to question a thing or two...

SPATIAL INSTALLATION
The Seven Stones is an audio installation centred on the wreck of the tanker Torrey Canyon on the Seven Stones reef between Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in 1967. It’s an environmental disaster marked in coastlines, archives, data and ecosystems.

PANEL SESSION
The session will examine how co-production can be embedded throughout a project, from early planning and interviewee selection to delivery, interpretation and creative outputs.

A bring-your-own-music listening cafe
Knut’s Kissa invites you to step into a cozy listening cafe where chatting and paying attention to music coexists. Based upon the concept of Japanese jazz kissas, Knut’s Kissa is similarly a cafe whose focal point is an absolutely superb hifi system, perfectly situated at Stereo Retro, St. Leonards’ premier shop for hifi, vinyl and coffee.

SPATIAL INSTALLATION (30 MIN LOOP)
Multi Faith Prayer Room is a black box of wishes and hopes, a cross-disciplinary project that collects todays utopian ideas and future desires from people and transforms them into a polyphony of inclusivity. At the center of MFPR is a data base made up of pre-recorded statements by people from all cultural contexts – encompassing nationalities, genders, and ages.

WORKSHOP
In this interactive workshop, we take inspiration from Jeremy Deller's History of the World to consider, visualize and draw our own personal histories of our audio worlds. We'll explore the sonic fascinations, influences, touchstones, mentors, schools of practice, genres and lineages that have influenced our own practice as audio makers and/or our taste and preferences as listeners.

SPATIAL PERFORMANCE + Q&A
a new quadraphonic performance by Emma-Kate Matthews that explores resonance ass architectural material. Developed through the ongoing Resonant Bodies research project, the work spatialises recordings of bespoke cast bronze and laser-sintered instruments to create a rich sonic environment that is felt as much as it is heard.

HAPPENING
In “Sun, Moon, Rising,” Jazmine Green (CMD+JAZMINE), Lucy Little, and Ariana Martinez engage in an exercise of trust, play, and narrative collaboration. Through spoken word, digital projections, and live musical performance “Sun, Moon, Rising” melds the structure of a three-act story and the improvisational jazz practice of “playing changes” to create a sonic landscape that evolves in real time.

WORKSHOP PERFORMANCE
Session 3: Playback and performance: live performance incorporating repeated sounds and movements in multiple combinations.

SPATIAL PERFORMANCE
An experimental live docu-audio performance and visual exhibition that explores abandoned spaces as sites of memory, disappearance, and lingering transmissions. The piece combines live storytelling, archival tape, and ambient field recordings, manipulated in order to create the feeling of the audience becoming a rogue radio transmission that drifts into America’s historical underbelly.

TALK
Invisible hands is an oral history project, a collection of silent stories from women working in all aspects of the recording industry, from fabricating discs and the record-players themselves, to meeting the women who assemble the minute parts that make up our microphones, tape-heads, tone-arms and radio sets. These are the tools we have been using to make radio, but where do they come from and, more importantly, who made them?

PANEL SESSION
How are audio professionals, musicians and artists working in ‘low arts engagement’ areas of the North East to create community art? 

PERFORMANCE / INSTALLATION
Pubblicità is a live tape performance and expanded listening environment by Keplero (Nicola Mecca), built from fragments of 1990s Italian television advertising, domestic VHS recordings, cassette transfers, degraded speech, jingles and unstable loops.

LIVE PERFORMANCE / AWARDS
A final gathering of sound and communion as we all come together with some justified praise with the Award Yourself Awards (AYAs) hosted by Helen Zaltzman and some improvised music with local/London string duo Balladeste improvising to the sounds you recorded during the festival for the Sonic Relay collected by Suzie McCarthy. This is XMTR Church!
