In “Sun, Moon, Rising,” Jazmine Green (CMD+JAZMINE), Lucy Little, and Ariana Martinez engage in an exercise of trust, play, and narrative collaboration. Through spoken word, digital projections, and live musical performance “Sun, Moon, Rising” melds the structure of a three-act story and the improvisational jazz practice of “playing changes” to create a sonic landscape that evolves in real time.
Jazmine Green is an audio documentarian by trade and artist by practice. She is the founder of Molten Heart, a duPont-Columbia award-winning creative and commercial studio focused on the texture of sound. Molten Heart’s collaborators include The Met, Stitcher Studios, and Audible. Her practice explores the spiritual qualities of improvisation, the convergence of technology and the human body, and the intersection of gender and race through visual, performance, and sound art. She writes and produces electronic music as CMD+JAZMINE. Her projects and performances have been exhibited at The University of Chicago and ICU VCA, received recognition such as the 2021 Third Coast Award for Best Documentary Short, and featured at festivals such as On Air and RESONATE.
Lucy Little is a multidisciplinary musician, improvisor, composer, and audio producer based in NYC. Their music and sound practice lives on the edge of many styles, inspired by a lifelong exploration of storytelling, community (present and ancestral), and queerness through the interplay of music, sound, and narrative. Their production and engineering work can be found in many podcasts and multimedia productions. They often compose and perform for theatrical productions and podcasts, including original scores for Audible Originals, On Air Fest 2024, SFMOMA, and more. They are involved in multiple ongoing documentary film projects as a composer, sound recordist, and mixer, including The People’s Bubbie and Object At Rest. As a performer, they have a solo electroacoustic project, and as a deeply collaborative musician, play with the Emmy Award winning theater company Manual Cinema, the Chicago-based indie rock and folk project Half Gringa, and with musicians around the U.S. and the world, including Iron & Wine, Aisha Burns, Dani Larkin, MICHA Música, Afarin Nazarijou, and more. Lucy is a U.S. Fulbright alum and a 2022 OneBeat Fellow.
Ariana Martinez (they/them) is an artist making images, objects and time-based works that investigate processes of sensory perception and spatial navigation. Drawing from queer and disabled lineages, Ariana works to create multi-sensory experiences of entanglement and reciprocity with their external environment. Currently, they are the art director and among the founding editors of Sound Fields, a new publication dedicated to audio documentary theory and practice. Ariana’s multimedia artwork has appeared at the Barbican Cultural Centre (London, UK), the Open City Documentary Festival (London, UK), the Third Coast International Audio Festival (Chicago, IL), the HearSay Audio Arts Festival (Kilfinane, Ireland), LUCIA Festival (Florence, Italy), BANGUOJA audio festival (Lithuania), and elsewhere.
