Habitat Builder Family Workshop - Composite Mashworks (Cath Roberts + Tullis Rennie) Family Workshop

  • Composite Mashworks Temporary Art Habitat, Tough Love Records 8 London Road Saint Leonards-on-sea, England, TN37 6AE United Kingdom (map)

Composite Mashworks presents Temporary Art Habitat, an improvised, immersive and interactive micro art space that will take over the back room at Tough Love record shop. Cath Roberts and Tullis Rennie will construct the habitat alongside festival visitors, using sound, colour, cardboard and strings in a two-day cross-artform improvisation. Their lo-fi audiovisual mashwork will combine electronic and acoustic soundmaking to create a place for listening, playing, and habitat-building together. Drop in anytime to listen to the sounds of the habitat, join the temporary art orchestra by making sounds, or add to their cardboard constructions. Also, look out for specific timed events and workshop sign-ups.

‘Habitat Builder’ Workshops Sat + Sun at 11am-12pm
(suitable for all ages, including children aged 6+ accompanied by an adult)

The workshops will provide a focused, family-friendly moment for participatory activities which will actually be available to all visitors throughout the installation times. Festival-goers can choose to engage in any of the following, for inclusion in the work:

- making 30-second 'field recordings' of the festival
- making 30-second cassette tape recordings of their voice, responding to prompts
- creating designs in pen on a small cardboard circle to add to the artwork

Composite Mashworks performances Sat + Sun at 3pm each day

Keep your eyes and ears open for musical interactions that can happen at any time in this Temporary Art Habitat in full expansion…

Composite Mashworks is the artist duo of Tullis Rennie and Cath Roberts. Their work harnesses acoustic and electronic instruments, objects, and activated structures to create temporary habitats for improvisation. This ongoing process, co-created with its surroundings, takes on new forms with every iteration. A studio-practice-made-ecosystem, discovered and shared in performance, via audio/video documents, through paper and pigment, behind closed doors, and in dialogue with people and spaces.
