History of your Audio World - Kalli Anderson

  • Horse & Groom 4 Mercatoria Saint Leonards-on-sea, England, TN38 0EB United Kingdom (map)

In this interactive workshop, we take inspiration from Jeremy Deller's History of the World to consider, visualize and draw our own personal histories of our audio worlds. We'll explore the sonic fascinations, influences, touchstones, mentors, schools of practice, genres and lineages that have influenced our own practice as audio makers and/or our taste and preferences as listeners. The workshop will include a brief introduction to different approaches to hand-sketched mapping, free association and visualization. Each participant will have an opportunity to create their own history of their audio world drawing on sheets of paper provided, and then we will have an optional "gallery walk" and discussion to learn about each other's maps and look for points of convergence and divergence between our audio histories. Participants will leave with new insights into the often unarticulated or unacknowledged influences on our own practices and sonic orientations, as well as new audio gems of the past and potential threads of discovery from their fellow participants.
