Join Stellaria Media and local birders Tom and David for a special bird migration event over Hastings Castle. This is the first of 3 workshops to create an original composition of on site recordings.

SOUND WALK
A sound walk inviting you to do just that: to look at the sea and explore its myriad meanings. This meditative trio for listener, headphones and St Leonards-on-Sea is inspired by Virgina Woolf’s 'The Waves'.

DROP IN EVENT
Drop into A Library Out of Air to pick up a free zine and help create a collective, archive out of the ether.

EXHBITION
This exhibition showcases Felix’s KNITSONIK era; her creative process from then; and her knack for drawing knitting palettes and patterns from the richly-textured world. 

AUDIO MAKING
Record 30-60 second micro-documentaries to capture small moments of everyday life: a conversation overheard at a bus stop, a classified ad, a local character, a family ritual, a fragment of history, a joke, a memory, a sound that reveals something about St Leonards-on-Sea. Prizes for great work!

SAUNA + LISTENING
On the edge of Hastings Pier - a stone’s throw from the beach - you’ll find the Sound Sauna; a tranquil listening space where we turn the heat up to eleven. Here we invite you can take a breath, and engage in deep listening in community, before heading for a cold plunge. Sauna Hats optional, swimwear essential. Bring a towel (or two!)

WORKSHOP
This workshop for audio makers will encourage an awareness of the potential for spatiality in audio work.

PANEL SESSION
In this session we’ll be exploring the use of audio archive material in the production process of new audio works from documentary series to radio plays. How are this recordings used, what are the ethics of using and adapting historical archives for sonic works? Bitsy Knox’s presents ’New Friend’ an 5 part audio documentary about a series of photographs taken in the 70’s. 

WORKSHOP
This workshop proposes listening as a way to sense infrastructure and atmosphere as overlapping fields of signal and flow.

An improvised, immersive and interactive micro art space that will take over the back room at Tough Love record shop. Cath Roberts and Tullis Rennie will construct the habitat alongside festival visitors, using sound, colour, cardboard and strings in a two-day cross-artform improvisation.

Modus arts invite you to make live foley in response to a selection of film clips. Discover the world of cinematic sound effects - from breaking your enemy's bones, to going for a winter walk across some freshly fallen snow.

Under the Hood - Clingradio turns salon hairdryers into listening devices, with a built-in sound system and repurposed timer dial as the volume control. They each play different 18-hour compilations of the 6-hour live weekly radio show Clingradio, produced by Sarah Washington for the first year of Resonance FM, from 2002-3.

Karina Townsend, Caitlin Kennedy and Marion Marincat discuss how their experiences with hearing loss shaped their work; and what they envision for the future of assisted hearing technology. This session will give context to The Sensation Gap installation in the afternoon.

In a world where we mostly listen alone, scrolling, streaming, plugging in, WE will start from a simple provocation: there is no listening unless it is shared. Listening is relational: tuning your body to the bodies around you, to the room, to the environment.

DROP-IN WORKSHOP
Remixing History is an audio zine making workshop by Applied Stories and The National Archives which has been touring the UK for the past year. Participants are invited to browse real archival records from the Second World War, brought to life by actors, then cut, mix and edit them together in new combinations, along with sound effects and music of their choosing.

LONG TABLE DISCUSSION
This session synthesises conversations that happened at XMTR PULSE and brings some of the key discussion points into the festival programme for all to consider and building on the work of audio producer and founder of Scenery Studios, Lina Prestwood, who has facilitated this space in previous years.

Radio 4x4 is a collaborative radio transmission performance, created by Tom Roe. SHOW + TELL
Why Hindenburg PRO is different from every other audio editor. The inspiration for Hindenburg PRO didn't come from a recording studio, a software company or an investor meeting. It came from a mission to connect people through storytelling.

PERFORMANCE
A one-woman performance that moves between 1650 and now, two timelines that refuse to stay separate. Live voice and audio converse across time and space. Built from personal testimony, ancestral history and the political noise that frames certain women's lives as peripheral, as missing something, as not quite the right shape.

Inspired by a visit to Derek Jarman's garden, his film The Garden, and his diaries Modern Nature, the track, album and accompanying performance explore listening with garden spaces, considering them within a broader sounding environment of human and more-than-human encounters that shape not only the garden itself but also its surrounding environments and communities.
