Remixing History is an audio zine making workshop by Applied Stories and The National Archives which has been touring the UK for the past year. Participants are invited to browse real archival records from the Second World War, brought to life by actors, then cut, mix and edit them together in new combinations, along with sound effects and music of their choosing. The resulting remixes of this historical material can be recorded, and may feature on 'War Variations', a new concept album being developed. Voice and sound clips are mounted in Soundboard Studio on networked iPads, with participants working in small groups to develop their remixes together. This drop-in session can be attended for as long as you like to develop your piece, or just come and browse this innovative approach to public engagement with history. Technicians will be on hand all day, including to record your creations, and to talk more about The National Archives' ten-year history of using performed audio as a way of bringing archival records to life for lay audiences.
