Does a deeper understanding of self, come from connecting with community, or through turning inwards?
wrk01 // is an immersive audio documentary and participatory listening experience exploring what happens when the people and places that once defined us, fall away, and how reconnecting with others can help us find our way back.
Documenting asanté’s move to the north of England through fragments of personal journal entries, conversations and sonic memories, the piece traces a journey through uncertainty, belonging and the need for connection in both new and familiar dynamics exploring friendship, creativity and the invisible ways people shape one another across time.
In response to the work, visitors are invited to become co-collaborators in the evolution of the work through an introduction to steel pan, rhythm and collective music-making, facilitated by Sean Clarke.
No previous musical experience is needed.
The workshop explores how trust, play and attentive listening can transform a group of strangers into a temporary community.
The conversations, discoveries and sounds created during the session become part of the continuing evolution of the work, allowing visitors not only to experience the story, but to contribute to its next chapter.

(Audio Producer + Sound Artst) nexus asanté is a immersive sound artist, audio documentary producer and broadcast journalist whose work explores the way sound shapes orientation, memory and experience within systems, public space and social pressure. After studying for an MA in Audio Storytelling and Anthropology, he now works across installation and broadcast formats, treating atmosphere as structure and interruption as method, focusing on fragmented, partial and mediated ways meaning emerges. His practice attends to erased experience and marginalised voices, asking how environments shape attention and what forms of care might be possible under pressure.
(Workshop facilitator) Sean Clarke is a professional steel pan musician and music educator based in West London, with more than 30 years of performance experience. A long-standing member of the internationally renowned Ebony Steel Band, he has performed on television and at major festivals, concert halls and events across the UK and internationally, touring throughout France, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, India, Nigeria and Trinidad, alongside an 11-month performance residency aboard the P&O Oceana throughout the Caribbean. For the past 15 years, Sean has also worked as a secondary school music teacher, delivering steel pan workshops for participants of all ages and abilities.
