Sound artist and radio maker DinahBird is collecting the silent stories of women working in all aspects of the recording industry, including fabrication, assembly & quality-control.
She will be exhibiting images from a glass plate archive at the pathé record pressing plant in Chatou.
Invisible hands is an oral history project, a collection of silent stories from women working in all aspects of the recording industry, from fabricating discs and the record-players themselves, to meeting the women who assemble the minute parts that make up our microphones, tape-heads, tone-arms and radio sets. These are the tools we have been using to make radio, but where do they come from and, more importantly, who made them?
DinahBird is a sound artist and radio maker based in Paris. She is interested in exploring the aesthetic, material and social aspects of sound reproduction through radio art, electroacoustic compositions, sound installations and live performances. She is the winner of the 2025 Karl Sczuka radio research prize for her ongoing research into the materiality of sound.
