Our sonic past is full of mischievous and unruly radio spirits, podcasting experiments and audio inventions. How might we summon these sonic ancestors to unsettle the narrow sound of our present? What lost futures might open up if we surface more of this medium’s memory?

Over the next year, A Library Out of Air is working to support a mass edit of Wikipedia - a site that shapes every search engine result and AI-query, in multiple languages, but has vanishingly little trace of radio and podcasting. 

In our miniature library, you'll find free zines to help you learn how to edit Wikipedia - from the smallest change to making a whole new page - your own library card to participate and two friendly librarians.

A Library out of Air is instigated by Kalli Anderson (Sound Fields‍) and Eleanor McDowall (Falling Tree), who have both been exploring ideas around sonic memories in their recent work – Kalli as editor of the Sound Fields archives issue and proceeding series of related talks and events and El through Midsummer Dreaming, the Falling Tree archival takeover of Radio 3 from sunset to sunrise on the solstice, her Radio 4 documentary Into the Ether and the slow creation of a postcard archive of radio memories through her zine project, Weird Noise.
