Join sound artist Amanda Gutiérrez for Radio Incantation — a participatory listening session and live radio performance exploring the radio as a collective tool for summoning pluri-esoteric speculations. Blending analogue and digital broadcasts, this sonic ritual draws on diverse belief systems and the resonant practice of the soul, transforming sound and experimental music into a multidimensional ritual of collective listening.

Rooted in the artist’s Zapotec heritage from the Valley of Oaxaca, Mexico, the work channels ancestral teachings on listening and evoking through the art of terrestrial transmission. In this sonic ritual, radio waves become vessels for connection with unseen and intangible presences, intentionally engaging with the territory of St Leonards-on-Sea — across time, between past and future spectra.

Guided by a speculative radio score, FM transmissions will unfold in real time. Audience members are invited to participate directly by tuning in, amplifying, and moving radios in relation to the FM transmitter and antenna, shaping the shared sonic space. This convivial gathering transforms radio into both an esoteric instrument and a social technology of togetherness.

Amanda Gutiérrez examines the intersection of political listening and gender studies through the lens of soundwalking and radio practices. She is currently developing the academic component of her artwork. Gutiérrez is a Ph.D. candidate in the Arts and Humanities (HUMA) at Concordia University.
