Join us for the launch of Sound Fields Issue No. 2: Archives. Contributor Sarah Kate Kramer and Editor Kalli Anderson will be in conversation about audio archives, AI and resurrecting voices from the past. This will be a live activation and discussion of Sarah’s essay “AI Zombies in the Archives,” featuring examples of grief bots, the AI-generated voice of Orson Welles, deep-fakes from the birth of documentary, and a critical look at how documentarians are now using AI in an attempt to fill gaps in the archive. As audio documentarians working in the age of machine listening, we must ask: what can our ears hear that machines cannot?
