Celebrating the amazing momentary space created under the pier twice a day, The Pier Sings captures the sound of the waves and resonance of the structure at high tide and plays it back binaurally in the same position at low tide.
Tony Birch’s practice explores site specific resonance and long form tonal works. The architect of the Concrete Voids project at Southbank Centre, he has collaborated with the Marina Abramovic Institute, designed Political Mother for the Hofesh Schecter Company and has composed original scores for Sita Osthaimer, Barnaby Booth, Northern School of Contemporary Dance and Folkwang Tanz Studio. He was pivotal to the development of Timax panLab, a spatial audio mixing tool that allows any digital mixing console to move sound in 3d.
He releases sound experiments and installations as @coastalnoisebath and @tonydbirchmusic. He currently lives in East Sussex.
