Bob Reflects on Steve's Birth

Bob and Mary are expecting. As this is their first child, Bob considers if he's even going to be in the room when Mary gives birth due to nerves and a multitude of emotions. As he goes through these reflections, he writes it all down and tucks it away in a journal. Decades later and after his death, Bob's granddaughter, Kellyn, finds this journal entry and decides to make a "sound poem" about her grandfather's emotions and the birth of her father, transcending years of family history and memory. Kellyn narrates this journal entry from the perspective of her grandfather and produces this sound poem, including her own field recordings, foley, and editing.

A fresh take on autofiction, the piece is constructed by using a mixture of first person narration and re-constructed dialogues from the past, with the author inhabiting and voicing all the characters as a way to materialize his inner discussions and trying to make sense of them.
