Communication Across the Field asks how we understand an experience that feels like communication when no source can be identified. Beginning with a personal encounter involving four identical, overwhelming notes heard in the middle of the night, the piece draws on philosophy, psychology, and art to explore experiences that seem to arrive beyond familiar channels of perception.
Through Rudolf Otto’s concept of the numinous and reflections on attention and receptivity, it considers how we might honor the force of such encounters while remaining uncertain about their source or meaning.
The piece is Episode Seven of The Space Between: Beneath the Surface of Everything, an independently produced, eight-part cinematic audio essay series exploring consciousness, identity, perception, and the limits of human understanding.
