This exhibition showcases Felix’s KNITSONIK era; her creative process from then; and her knack for drawing knitting palettes and patterns from the richly-textured world. 

Felix’s inspiration sources (factories, cakes, tins, etc.) are shown beside the yarn-palettes and knitting charts they inspired. Alongside her process, you can see Felix’s swatches and accessories, created using her practices of cherishing, colour-matching and pattern-design. 

Two QR codes take you to sound-maps in which you can explore Felix's field recordings of the working wool industry, and the everyday inspiration sources that inspired this body of work.

Casting Off KNITSONIK celebrates this body of work as neurodivergent joy and feminist art achievement. It mourns a way of working no longer available to Felix, and marks a starting line for the work that will come next.

Felix Ford is a neurodivergent disabled artist whose work foregrounds the preciousness of our everyday lives, and the essential need for play. Felix cultivates whimsy as a form of resistance to late-stage capitalist grind-culture and despair. She is currently exploring new art forms after arthritis in her wrists has curtailed her hand-knitting activities, and runs a creative online school focused on collage and journaling. Current special interests include carving rubber stamps that commemorate her special beach finds; finding knitting patterns to play on her music box; and learning how to play 1990s dance tunes on her cherished old upright piano.
